About This Course

A small-group, ongoing advanced supervision program for experienced ISTDP-trained therapists who wish to deepen their clinical attunement and refine moment-to-moment psychodynamic work with complex cases.

This supervision focuses on supporting therapists in the transition from technical proficiency to greater relational depth, emotional presence, and precision in working with unconscious processes.


Who This Program Is For

This program is suitable for:

  • Psychiatrists

  • Clinical Psychologists

  • Psychotherapists

  • Mental health professionals

Prerequisite

  • A minimum of three years of ISTDP training under a certified ISTDP teacher is required.


Purpose of Supervision

This supervision is designed for therapists with foundational and intermediate ISTDP skills who wish to further develop:

  • Sophisticated clinical listening

  • Awareness of unconscious relational patterns

  • Capacity to work with intense emotional and relational phenomena

The emphasis is on fine-tuning clinical work, moving beyond technique toward relational attunement and moment-to-moment responsiveness with the patient.


Areas of Focus

Supervision will focus on advanced clinical processes, including:

  • Transference and transference resistance in complex cases

  • Countertransference phenomena in the therapist

  • Projective identification

  • Working with enactments in the therapeutic relationship

  • Maintaining focus on the therapeutic task with empathy

  • Recognizing and addressing early dropout processes


Format

  • Type: Group Supervision

  • Frequency: Once per month

  • Schedule: One Saturday per month

  • Duration: 6 hours per session

  • Delivery Mode: Live, Online


Group Size

  • 3–4 therapists per group

  • Small group size ensures depth of exploration and individualized feedback.


Supervision Method

The supervision process includes:

  • Video-based case supervision

  • Detailed moment-to-moment process review

  • Guided clinical discussion

  • Emphasis on therapist self-reflection and emotional awareness
